Preparation work for the construction of a £126m dual carriageway in Leeds will start this month, despite the collapse of the scheme’s original preferred bidder Carillion in January.

The £126M East Leeds Orbital Road (ELOR) scheme will not be delayed by the collapse of Carillion, despite the failed firm being preferred bidder for the project’s advanced works contract, Leeds City Council has heard. 

Banking giant HSBC is facing a demand for cash from Leeds City Council after Carillion’s collapse left a cycle highway project unfinished.

Carillion has been appointed to a scheme to construct a new 7km dual carriageway in Leeds, which has contracts worth up to £120M.

Airport bosses have called for the construction date for Leeds Bradford parkway station to be brought forward.
